Dominica’s senior women’s national football team suffered a heavy defeat in their final group match of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, going down 14–0 to Central American side Nicaragua on Saturday.
The Nature Isle team entered the match on a high note after securing their first point of the campaign with a draw against Antigua last week.
However, that momentum quickly faded once play began with Nicaragua striking early, opening the scoring just two minutes into the match, a sign of what was to come.
Dominica struggled to contain the attack and conceded five more goals before halftime, trailing 6–0 at the break.
The second half brought no relief, as Nicaragua continued their dominance, adding eight more goals to complete the 14–0 rout.
With the result, Dominica finished at the bottom of the group with one point and a goal difference of -35.
Jamaica topped the group with 12 points, followed by Nicaragua with nine. Guyana finished third with six points, Antigua placed fourth, and Dominica rounded out the standings in fifth.
