Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has congratulated His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his election as the 267th Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said he was extending heartfelt congratulations to the new Pontiff, the first American pope, on behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica, and as a son of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Skerrit says the ascension of the new pope comes at a pivotal moment in the world when nations grapple with conflict, inequality and the urgent need for peace, compassion and unity.
The Dominican leader adds that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV’s leadership is a profound symbol of renewal and hope, reminding that faith constantly invites us to rebuild, reconcile and recommit to the service of others.
Mr. Skerrit notes that the people of Dominica look forward to the new Pope’s guidance as a shepherd of moral clarity, justice and mercy, and pray that his pontificate will inspire hearts across continents to seek common ground, care for creation and build a future anchored in love.
