Dominica produced an impressive performance at the ANOECS Track and Field Championships in St. Kitts, returning home with four medals after the two-day competition concluded on Sunday.
The eight-member team captured two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze, finishing sixth overall among the nine participating countries with 76 points.
The highlight of the championships came in the men’s high jump, where brothers Khumaar and Khaarim John-Baptiste shared the gold medal after both cleared 1.85 metres.
Khumaar added a second medal to his tally by claiming bronze in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 14.25 metres. Despite the achievement, he said he believes he was capable of producing even better performances in both events.
Meanwhile, Khaarim described sharing the top spot on the podium with his brother as a special moment.
Dominica’s other medal came courtesy of Akiesha Luke, who captured silver in the women’s 800 metres after clocking 2 minutes, 24.83 seconds.
There were also strong performances from the rest of the team, with Khaarim Jno Baptiste finishing fourth in the men’s triple jump, Nycarl Williams placing fourth in the women’s javelin, and Jamical Titre securing fourth in the men’s shot put.
Host nation St. Kitts and Nevis topped the medal standings with 180 points, followed by Antigua and Barbuda in second and the British Virgin Islands in third.
